MyBroadband is South Africa’s largest IT website, with over 1.2 million unique monthly readers and 7 million page views. Many people have asked us what it takes to host such a large website – here are the details.
MyBroadband is hosted in Hetzner’s new data centre in Samrand. This data centre replicates Hetzner Online’s award-winning, energy efficient German facilities.
This data centre features N+2 redundancy on air conditioning, fully redundant physically separated A+B power feeds, and 24/7 security.
To serve its connectivity needs, Hetzner uses AfricaINX and Internet Solutions as their primary bandwidth providers.
Connectivity is provided through diverse, redundant fibre routes connecting the facility to a 10Gbps fibre ring.
MyBroadband’s hosting
MyBroadband’s hosting is managed by Hetzner’s custom hosting solutions (CHS) division which focusses on high traffic, high availability websites.
As part of the CHS supported product, MyBroadband has direct access to high-end server admin and network engineering skills, available 24/7.
The server cluster architecture principles, designed and maintained by the custom hosting solutions team, focusses on simplicity.
A wide range of open source technologies are used to maintain flexibility, freedom to choose preferred technology and to contain costs.
The hosting solution sports DDos Mitigation, and removes any single points of failure without introducing excessive complexity or cost.
MyBroadband makes use of high-end servers, featuring Intel Xeon Quad Core CPUs, 32 GB ECC RAM and SSDs for high disk IO (input/output) components.
