Reggie's makes good on R999 PS3 offer
On 25 October 2010 Reggie’s announced that shipping would be free for a week on purchases from their online store.
During this time the toy store also began listing the new 320 GB PlayStation 3 bundles which included the newest version of Sony’s popular gaming console and one game.
One particular bundle, a PS3 320GB with Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood, was listed for a very brief time for R999. Could this have been a mistake, or the deal of lifetime?
Two MyBroadband employees couldn’t pass up on such an obvious deal, and an order for two of the consoles was swiftly organised.
The bundle was listed for so brief a period that the product’s page was taken offline while the payment transactions were being processed by the Reggie’s website checkout section.
However, the product was in the basket and checkout was able to proceed as normal and the credit card payment went off without a hitch.
Most companies that sell their goods online post a disclaimer to the effect that mistakes in price listing are possible. Usually they indicate that they will ask customers to pay the difference if the listed price was too low, or alternatively offer a refund.
The Reggie’s online store is no different, and it is perfectly reasonable to expect that they would seek to correct a R6,000 mistake.
“Only when Reggie’s has accepted your offer and delivered the goods, will an enforceable agreement of sale be transacted. Reggie’s can cancel the sale at any time at Reggies’s absolute discretion,” the terms and conditions on the Reggie’s website reads.
Reggie’s stuck by their advertised price, however. They let us know in a timely fashion that stock was an issue and that they only expected a new delivery at the end of November 2010.
They even asked if we were willing to wait to that long. Let’s be honest, who wouldn’t be willing to wait for such a massive special?
The stock arrived early in December and was duly shipped out on Monday, 6 December 2010.
There’s only one complaint and that’s that the Reggie’s order tracking system on their website isn’t kept up to date. Four days after the order was received the website still reports “Not yet shipped.”
While the orders team respond in a timely fashion to email queries regarding the status of an order, a working web system would be preferable for many online customers.
A company that honours their advertised pricing, as Reggie’s has in this instance, goes a long way to show that they are willing to deal honestly with their customers. Hopefully this will not only gain the respect of their clientèle, but also their future patronage.
