Eskom spending R56,000 a day on legal fees for fraud accused
The Sunday Times has reported that Eskom is spending R56,000 a day on legal fees to defend a senior manager accused of defrauding the company of R65 million.
The manager and his co-accused have pleaded not guilty to fraud in a case regarding building and maintaining electrical infrastructure in Khayelitsha.
One of the accused is alleged to have stolen millions which should have gone to the scheme, and used it to fund a plush lifestyle in an exclusive residential marina.
Eskom said that because the accused is still employed by Eskom, the company is paying his legal fees. However, if the person is found guilty they will have to repay the money.
The full report is available in the Sunday Times of 15 February 2015.
