Winter load shedding warning a fake: Eskom

Eskom switch

A Whatsapp message doing the rounds in South Africa that load shedding in winter would be a daily occurrence is a hoax, Eskom said on Thursday.

The message says that “as from 5 June 2015, the electricity will start going off every day from 06h00 until 10h00 (morning) and will go [off] again from 17h00 until 21h00 (night) until the situation of load shedding is over.

Please prepare yourself for this challenge. Please share this information to everybody in South Africa.”

Eskom took to Twitter on Thursday to dispute the message.

“The message spreading… is not true,” it tweeted.

“In winter the electricity demand peaks in the morning and the evening as more electricity is used during these times.

“Load shedding will be no different from the current experience. We will give a prognosis and we will only load shed if necessary.”
