Eskom power cuts as cold weather sets in

Eskom is battling the bad weather setting in across South Africa as it attempts to restore electricity to over 40,000 customers who have had their power supply cut.

The power utility said on Twitter that the Eastern Cape had over 40,000 customers without electricity due to bad weather conditions on the evening of 4 June.

It asked for patience while it endeavored to restore supply.

Eskom also said it dismissed the “resurfacing of a viral statement about an imminent blackout in the country” as a “malicious hoax aimed at creating unnecessary panic”.
