Eskom board spokesman Khulani Qoma has confirmed that Brian Molefe will return to his previous position as Eskom CEO.
In an interview with Radio 702, Qoma said Molefe has resigned as a Member of Parliament and will return to head up the company on Monday.
Qoma said reports regarding Molefe’s R30-million golden handshake resulted in the board reviewing the situation and agreeing to rescind the initial decision for a pension payout.
This nullified Molefe’s resignation, allowing him to return, said Qoma.
Molefe left Eskom in January 2017 and was sworn in as an MP in February.
His resignation from Eskom followed the Public Protector’s State of Capture report, in which he featured prominently as a Gupta family ally.
Molefe was found to have had 58 telephone interactions with Ajay Gupta between August 2015 and March 2016.
