Eskom load-shedding is back

Eskom has stated that it will implement Stage 1 load-shedding today, 14 March 2019.

Load-shedding will take place from 11:00 until 23:00.

The announcement from Eskom follows several weeks of no load-shedding from the utility, leaving South Africans with hope that the power cuts were over.

The news also follows energy regulator Nersa granting Eskom’s request for tariff hikes.

The regulator said that it had granted Eskom the following tariff increases over the next three years:

  • 9.41% or allowed revenue of R206.34 billion for 2019/2020.
  • 8.10% or allowed revenue of R221.8 billion for 2020/2021.
  • 5.83% or allowed revenue of R233.1 billion for 2021/2022.
