Eskom will implement stage 2 load-shedding tonight.
The power utility stated that stage 2 load-shedding will take place from 22:00 this evening until 05:00 tomorrow morning.
Eskom said it lost three generating units today and had to implement emergency reserves to meet power demand.
As a result, the emergency reserve levels are critically low, and load-shedding was required.
The risk of further load-shedding tomorrow also remains high if generating units are not returned tonight, said Eskom.
Turn off air-conditioners
Eskom requested that South Africans make a concerted effort to reduce the amount of electricity they are using to lower power demand levels.
It provided examples of how people should reduce their usage, which included instructions to:
- Turn off air-conditioners
- Turn off geysers
- Only use cold water
- Turn off your computers at the end of the day
