Eskom has announced that stage 2 load-shedding will continue from 09:00 today and throughout the weekend.
The load-shedding will only stop at 06:00 on Monday morning (3 February), stated Eskom.
The company said the power cuts were due to a shortage of capacity and the depletion of emergency resources.
“In addition, we are taking out three big units for planned maintenance today,” said Eskom.
Unplanned outages were also at 12,722MW this morning, it added.
“We apologise to South Africans for the negative impact this may have on them,” said Eskom.
Instructions for using electricity
Eskom went on to provide a list of instructions for South Africans to follow when using electricity.
- Using the cold water tap, so as to not use geysers
- Set aircons to above 23 degrees
- Switch your PC off at the wall switch to avoid standby or sleep modes
