Eskom increases load-shedding without notice

Eskom increased load-shedding to stage 4 at 16:00 on Thursday, 7 December 2023, without notifying the public or the media beforehand.

In a statement on X and a WhatsApp media group message sent at 18:25, the utility confirmed it implemented the higher stage of load-shedding about two and a half hours earlier.

“Stage 4 load-shedding was implemented at 16:00 today and will continue until 05:00 on Friday [8 December 2023],” Eskom said.

“This will be followed by stage 3 load-shedding from 05:00 until 16:00 on Friday.”

The utility did not apologise for its late notification of the change in load-shedding stages but said it would communicate further on Friday afternoon if any significant changes occurred.

It previously said that stage 3 load-shedding would be in effect from 05:00 on Wednesday until 16:00 on Friday.
