Eskom announces load-shedding schedule for the week

Eskom has announced that load-shedding will drop to Stage 2 at 17:00 on Sunday, 4 February 2024.

Stage 2 will remain in effect until 16:00 on Monday, 5 February, when load-shedding will increase to Stage 3.

“Due to constrained emergency reserves, Stage 3 load-shedding was implemented at 02:00 this morning,” said Eskom.

“This stabilised the power system and necessitated a reduction in load-shedding to Stage 2 from 17:00 today until 16:00 on Monday.”

“Thereafter, with the anticipated weekday electricity demand, Stage 3 load-shedding will be implemented from 16:00 on Monday until 05:00 on Tuesday, followed by Stage 2 load-shedding until 16:00,” it added.

The power utility said the pattern of Stage 2 during the day and Stage 3 overnight will be repeated daily until further notice. It said it would communicate any significant changes should they occur.

Eskom currently has a total of 22,272MW of generating capacity offline.

“Unplanned outages are at 14,341MW of generating capacity, while the capacity out of service for planned maintenance is at 7,931MW,” it said.

“Eskom Power Station General Managers and their teams will continue to work diligently to ensure that the 1,450MW of generating capacity is returned to service by Tuesday as planned.”

The power utility said it anticipated a peak demand of 25,307MW on the evening of Sunday, 4 February.
