Battle between four companies as South Africa’s most trusted ICT distributor

Rectron, Pinnacle, First Distribution, and Mustek are in a close race to be South Africa’s most trusted ICT distributor.

This was one of the findings in MyBroadband’s business technology survey, conducted in July 2024.

The survey was completed by 783 respondents. Only responses from executives and managers who decide which ICT products their companies buy were considered.

The survey results showed that Rectron was the most trusted ICT distributor among South African business decision-makers, with 17% of the vote.

Rectron enjoyed a slight edge over Pinnacle at 16% and First Distribution and Mustek at 15% each.

The fact that the four big ICT distributors were separated by only 2% showed the fierce competition in the South African market.

Interestingly, Rectron, part of the Mustek group, has topped its holding company in brand awareness.

Rectron employs 300 staff across South Africa and has offices in all major cities, including Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban, Bloemfontein, and Port Elizabeth.

Rectron said it wants to be recognised as a leading player in the South African and Southern African ICT industry.

The latest MyBroadband business technology survey findings show that the company is doing well in achieving this goal.

Pinnacle, which ranked second, was established in 1993 and offers a wide array of premier technology products delivered throughout South Africa.

It is an authorised and exclusive distributor for numerous leading ICT brands, including HP, Dell, Lenovo, Huawei, Asus, and Proline.

Its portfolio extends to compute, hyperconverged, storage, infrastructure, POS, power, and security solutions.

It services many sectors, including service providers and installers, the SMB channel, the public sector and education, commercial businesses, and retailers.

First Distribution, founded in 1984, is South Africa’s leading ICT distributor for datacentre, enterprise and cloud solutions.

Its vision is to be recognised as the first-choice value-added distributor of leading global brands, providing complex ICT solutions to the Enterprise and SME markets.

First Distribution’s focus is on data centres, virtualisation, hosted applications, and cloud-based services.

It also has a strong presence in databases, middleware, cyber security, and network infrastructure.

First Distribution is a multi-award-winning distributor and has been highly recognised within the South African technology industry.

MyBroadband’s business technology survey results show that it is one of South Africa’s most trusted ICT distributor brands.

Mustek, founded in 1987 by well-known entrepreneur David Kan, is one of the biggest names in South Africa’s ICT distributor market.

It is one of South Africa’s largest assemblers and distributors of personal computers and complementary ICT products.

The company’s portfolio includes many top-tier ICT brands, including Acer, Asus, Samsung, Lenovo, Brother, Microsoft, and Huawei.

Mustek appointed Hein Engelbrecht as its group chief executive officer after the passing of David Kan in May 2022.
