“Secret” Telkom fibre-to-the-home prices
Residents from Constantia in Cape Town launched a request for proposals (RFP) on 27 February 2015 as part of a drive to get fibre-to-the-home in their neighbourhood.
The Constantia Fibre initiative (CFI) said that since it started off in January, more than 1,500 residents have registered on its website and indicated their interest to receive FTTH.
“Since then, we have been in touch with more than 25 fibre operators and internet service providers,” said Martin Diessner from the CFI.
Numerous fibre providers responded to the RFP, including Telkom, MTN, Vodacom, Smart Village, and Link Africa.
These proposals included various aspects of the service providers’ fibre plans, including their wholesale pricing.

In its proposal Telkom said it is planning to provide an open access fibre network in Constantia. This will allow other service providers to offer FTTH services over its infrastructure.
Telkom proposed three fibre-to-the-home products: 20Mbps/2Mbps, 40Mbps/3Mbps, 100Mbps/10Mbps (download speed/upload speed).
The table below provides an overview of Telkom’s Wholesale Fibre Broadband Access (WFBA) services and prices. All prices exclude VAT.
It should be noted that these services are for 24-month contract wholesale fibre access, and exclude Internet usage or any other value added services or voice options offered by the respective ISPs.
