Seacom fibre-to-the-home plans

Seacom officially launched its business division on 8 October, announcing it has been offering fibre Internet and cloud services to enterprises for about a year.
Businesses within the 20 precincts where Seacom has fibre are able to get Internet access at speeds of between 25Mbps and 1Gbps.
It plans to roll out another 40 precincts by the end of 2015, said Seacom.
In addition to its business fibre services, Seacom said it effectively already supplies fibre-to-the-home services to some of its shareholders’ homes through partners.
However, it has no plans to target the residential market directly.
“As we build out these fibre precincts… as we roll out a 2-3km ring of fibre, you want to get as much traffic on it as possible,” said Seacom CEO Byron Clatterbuck.
He said Seacom would welcome partnerships with other network service providers who wished to extend Seacom’s fibre in a particular precinct into nearby homes.
“Is it a key business focus for us? Not yet,” said Clatterbuck.
