Submarine fibre cables are the backbone of the world’s Internet, connecting countries and continents to one another via thousands of kilometres of data-carrying pipes.

Africa is connected to the rest of the world via multiple submarine cables – with South Africa hosting landing stations in the Western Cape and KwaZulu-Natal.

The Submarine Cable Map shows where these cables are located and cable systems which are in the works.
