Fastest fibre packages in South Africa under R750 per month

South African households looking for an affordable and high-speed fibre connection can get download speeds of up to 120Mbps on an uncapped package for less than R750 per month, a MyBroadband analysis has revealed.
It is no secret that fibre prices have plummeted in South Africa in recent years, with residents generally paying less for the same fibre-to-the-home packages than two years ago.
As a result, many large fibre network operators (FNOs) now target lower-income earners in lower Living Standards Measure areas.
Living Standards Measure (LSM) is a market research tool providing a more granular metric for socio-economic class. The measurement ranges from 1 to 10, and higher numbers indicate greater access to wealth.
According to Frogfoot CEO Shane Chorley, this is because most high LSM areas are already covered by fibre networks, leaving little room for expansion in such regions.
“We are still building where it involves simple extensions of our existing infrastructure. However, to be honest, there isn’t much left to build in high Living Standards Measure areas,” said Chorley.
“We are now heavily focused on expanding into lower LSM areas and are eager to accelerate those efforts.”
Earlier this year, MyBroadband compared fibre-to-the-home pricing from prominent ISPs across four FNOs in January 2022 to the prices that were on offer in January 2024.
We found that prices for entry-level fibre packages had either come down or remained roughly the same, while most packages saw significant speed increases.
Twenty out of the 32 packages compared were cheaper in 2024, while five had similar pricing with higher speeds.
Another way to approach such a comparison is to see what the fastest fibre package on the market is below a set budget.
MyBroadband looked for the fastest fibre-to-the-home packages available through prominent South African Internet service providers for less than R750 per month.
Frogfoot’s asymmetrical 120Mbps package through Afrihost offers the best value at R699 monthly. It provides a 60Mbps upload speed.
Three 100Mbps packages are available in South Africa for under R750 per month. However, their upload speeds vary.
Those looking for a symmetrical 100Mbps package can get Demux’s line through RSAWeb for R675 per month.
The other two 100Mbps packages are available through Webafrica. Vumatel’s 100/50Mbps package costs R739 per month, and Mitsol’s 100/10Mbps line is R639 per month.
Households can also choose from three 75Mbps packages for under the R750-per-month price limit.
These include MetroFibre Nexus and Octotel’s symmetrical 75Mbps lines and Fibre Geeks’ 75/25Mbps package, all through Webafrica as the ISP.
The MetroFibre and Fibre Geeks packages cost R719 per month, while the Octotel line just makes the cut at R749 per month.
Several symmetrical 60Mbps packages are also available for under R750 per month in South Africa.
It should be noted that the availability of these packages will depend on whether the area in which you live is covered by the respective FNO.
The table below lists ten of the fastest fibre-to-the-home packages you can get in South Africa for less than R750 per month, in descending order according to download speed.
