Samsung launched its U9000 series of curved ultra-high definition (UHD) television sets to the South African market on Wednesday, 21 May 2014.
The TV was first launched at CES in January in sizes ranging up to 105-inch and pre-orders for the 65-inch model were opened in South Africa from mid-April to 11 May 2014 at R69,999.
Those who pre-ordered got a 5-year warranty; Samsung UHD Blu-ray player; and free delivery and basic installation within South Africa.
At the launch, Samsung South Africa revealed that it would also be launching the 78-inch model of the TV at a recommended retail price of R150,000.
The recommended retail price of the 65″ model will remain at R70,000, Samsung said.
P.A.T: ADH for TVs
In addition to the “million megs of data” (1TB) bundled with the TV as part of a promotion with Vox Telecom, Samsung also announced its P.A.T. warranty.
An acronym for “Protect, Assist, and Trade”, the warranty offers the following features:
- Protect: Up to R2,500 payout for accidental damage or theft on a premium product;
- Assist: Unlimited telephonic support +2 free callouts
- Trade: Trade in your old smartphone and receive a premium product voucher, valid for the purchase of a premium product such as a Samsung U9000 TV.
The TV is “available at all good retailers countrywide,” Samsung said.
