Sony SmartWatch 3 steel edition launching soon

Alongside a number of new product announcements at CES in Las Vegas on Tuesday, 6 January 2015, Sony Mobile issued a press statement to announce the upcoming launch of a stainless steel version of the SmartWatch 3.

This new edition of the SmartWatch 3 will roll out from February 2015, and will be available in the United States during the first quarter of 2015.

It features a 1.6-inch 320×320 TFT LCD Transflective display, and is rated IP68, meaning it is dust tight and waterproof. Sony has specified that the Smart Watch 3 will be water protected up to 1.5m in fresh water as long as all its ports are closed.

Sony also announced that the SmartWatch 3 holder, which will make it possible to attach any standard 24mm watch strap to the SmartWatch 3.

On the software front, Sony said that it is providing an open API for its Lifelog Android app, which will let third-party developers support Sony’s fitness platform.

Soon Lifelog will be supported by IFTTT, Habit Monster, and Withings Smart Body Analyzer, Sony said.
