Samsung unveiled its new range of curved SUHD TVs for South Africa at an event in Johannesburg on 23 April 2015.
In addition to announcing a pre-order promotion offering early adopters a Samsung Galaxy S6 or S6 Edge with their new TV, Samsung also provided recommended pricing for its 78″ and 88″ SUHD TVs.
Pricing is as follows:
- 55″ Samsung JS9000 SUHD TV: R45,000
- 65″ Samsung JS9000 SUHD TV: R70,000
- 78″ Samsung JS9500 SUHD TV: R150,000
- 88″ Samsung JS9500 SUHD TV: R250,000
The term SUHD should not be confused with 8K. Samsung’s SUHD TVs are all 4K displays running at resolutions of 3840×2160.
Samsung said it uses the marketing term to indicate the superior colour reproduction technology it has built into the TVs.
The “SUHD re-mastering engine” will automatically analyse the brightness of images to minimise power consumption.
Combined with nano-crystal semiconductors that transmit different colours depending on their size, Samsung said its SUHD TVs are able to produce the highest colour purity and light efficiency available today.
Samsung added that the SUHD range will run on its new Tizen-based platform, which promises a number of features – including a more responsive user interface.
A number of apps relevant to the South African market will be coming to Tizen, Samsung said, including SuperSport, Vidi, and Simfy Africa.
