Canon’s 250MP sensor is the future of digital cameras
Canon has developed a 250MP sensor, which it says has “the world’s highest number of pixels for a CMOS sensor”, smaller than the size of a 35mm full-frame sensor.
“When installed in a camera, the newly-developed sensor was able to capture images enabling the distinguishing of lettering on the side of an airplane flying at a distance of approximately 18 km from the shooting location,” said Canon.
Video footage captured by the camera with the “approximately 250-megapixel sensor” (19,580 x 12,600) had a resolution 125 times that of Full HD, and approximately 30 times that of 4K.
Currently, Canon is focused on the industrial applications of the sensor.
