The Samsung Gear S2 will be available in South Africa during November 2015, Samsung has announced.

Samsung first revealed its new Gear smartwatch in August 2015 at its Unpacked event, where it said the device would support both web and native Tizen apps.

Over the course of the month, Samsung revealed more details about the device, culminating in a big presentation at IFA in Berlin.

Three versions of the device were set to go on sale internationally from October 2015:

  • Gear S2 – 42 x 49.8 x 11.4 mm and 47g
  • Gear S2 Classic – 39.9 x 43.6 x 11.4 mm and 42g
  • Gear S2 3G Version – 44 x 51.8 x 13.4 mm and 51g

According to reports, the Gear S2 hit the US market on 5 October, with the standard model costing $300 – while the Gear S2 Classic is priced at around $350. US prices are quoted without sales taxes.

All of the models boast a 1.2-inch circular Super AMOLED display with 360 × 360 resolution, a dual-core 1GHz processor, 512MB of RAM, and 4GB of internal storage.

They all support Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1, and NFC connections.

The S2 and S2 Classic run off a 250mAh Li-ion battery, while the 3G version packs a 300mAh battery. All watches support wireless charging.

Samsung said it would only be able to provide price details closer to the launch.
