A company called Battelle has developed a handheld rifle that shoots drones out of the sky using radio waves – dubbed the DroneDefender.
“It can help us in numerous settings, from the White House lawn to bases and embassies overseas; from prisons and schools to historic sites,” said Alex Morrow, technical director on the project.
The weapon weighs around 4.5kg and can target drones up to 400 meters away.
The gun shoots a blast of electromagnetic energy tuned to the most common GPS and ISM frequencies, stated Engadget, which disables the drone and prevents if from being controlled by its operator.
