LG develops fingerprint sensor under glass
LG Innotek has developed an under-glass fingerprint sensor module, which allows users to place their finger on the glass cover of a phone to unlock it.
Previous “button-type” modules required you to press a finger on a raised square or circular button for your fingerprint to be read.
The design required the sensor to be mounted on the front, rear, or side buttons of a smartphone.
LG Innotek can now cut a 0.3mm-thick furrow on the lower backside of a glass cover and install the fingerprint sensor inside of it.
The sensor is not exposed to the outside of the device, so manufacturers can produce a sleek smartphone.
The new module also ensures fingerprint recognition accuracy, with a false acceptance rate of 0.002%.
