Kobo Aura One e-reader takes on the Amazon Kindle
Rakuten Kobo has revealed a new e-reader which will take on Amazon’s Kindle devices, the Kobo Aura One.
It features a 7.8-inch, 300ppi touchscreen display and weighs 230g.
The Aura’s built-in reading light also won’t keep you up at night, said Rakuten.
“By reducing blue light exposure, Kobo Aura One’s enhanced front-light technology lets people enjoy nighttime reading without impacting their sleep,” said the company.
An ambient light sensor detects light levels in the room and sets the screen brightness accordingly. Users can also manually adjust the light settings.
The Aura One is also water resistant, meeting IPX8 standards.
Kobo has announced launch dates for the US – selling for $229 – the UK, and several other countries. No launch date or pricing has been announced for South Africa.
