A smart home device called the police during a recent violent domestic dispute in New Mexico, reported ABC News.
Eduardo Barros was involved in an argument with his girlfriend at their home, with his girlfriend’s daughter present in the house.
While allegedly wielding a firearm and threatening to kill his girlfriend, Barros asked her: “Did you call the sheriffs?”
A smart home device connected to a surround sound system recognised this as a voice command and proceeded to call the police, who overheard the altercation and dispatched units to the scene.
The girlfriend and her daughter were safely extracted from the house by police.
It has not been confirmed which smart home assistant was present, but authorities said the device played a potentially life-saving role in the incident.
Gizmodo reported that a Google Home was the smart device in question.
