Kodi box seller pleads guilty to money laundering in the UK

Following police raids of the premises of GeekyKit.com, UK man Julian Allen has pleaded guilty to money laundering charges involving over £135,000, TorrentFreak reported.

Allen sold “fully-loaded Kodi boxes” over a 30-month period, stated the report.

The report noted that since a European Court of Justice ruled earlier this year that selling “fully-loaded” streaming boxes is illegal, people in a similar position to Allen have seen their cases take a turn for the worse.

In 2016, South Africa saw its first criminal prosecution against an Internet TV box seller – which concluded with a plea deal that saw the infringing company able to continue operating and the directors not receiving a criminal record.

For pleading guilty to contravening section 86 of the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act, the company’s owner was handed a five-year suspended sentence.
