Germany bans smartwatches for kids

Germany has banned the sale of children’s smartwatches, classifying the wearables as illegal, reported Bleeping Computer.

The smartwatches are “prohibited listening devices”, said the German Federal Network Agency.

According to the agency, parents could use the smartwatches to listen in on their child’s environment, recording conversations without permission.

Parents were reportedly using apps to listen to their child’s classroom environment, recording teachers and conversations with other children.

Recording or listening to private conversations without the permission of participants is illegal in Germany.

The agency also advised schools to crack down on children’s smartwatches.
