HP issues safety recall for laptop batteries

HP has issued a safety recall for thousands of laptop batteries used in its products around the world.

According to the company, the batteries have the potential to overheat, posing a fire and burn hazard to customers.

“For this reason, it is extremely important to check whether your battery is affected,” HP said.

Multiple devices are affected by the recall, including products in the HP Probook 64x, ProBook 65x, x360 310, Envy, Pavilion, and ZBook lineups.

Many of these batteries are internal to the system and not customer replaceable, but HP is providing battery replacement services through authorised technicians at no cost.

The manufacturer also recommends that affected users update their BIOS to put their device into “Battery Safety Mode”.
