Makro launches Kindle 3 e-book reader

Makro today launched the Kindle 3 e-book reader at their Woodmead and Strubensvalley stores, with a country-wide roll-out planned for the end of the month.

The Kindle is an e-book reader developed by Amazon subsidiary Lab126 allowing users to purchase, download and read e-books, newspapers, magazines and other digital media.

The Kindle use an ‘E Ink’ electronic paper display that shows up to 16 shades of gray and simulates reading on paper.

According to Amazon there are currently around 950 000 titles available on the Kindle store, with an average paperback selling at around R80.

“We decided to launch the Kindle in response to the amount of hype in the market around the brand,” said Bruno Persic, Merchandise Manager at Makro.

Persic explained that they decided to launch the device in the week leading up to fathers day to cater for shoppers looking for a technology gift.

Makro is selling the 3G Wi-Fi Kindle at R2,499.
