iPhone 4S to be offered by FNB?

First National Bank (FNB) may soon add the iPhone 4S to its stable of smartphone and tablet PC deals, if a source working close to the promotions is to be believed.

FNB began offering special deals on certain tablets and smartphones to its Platinum and Gold cheque account holders during October 2011.

Initially the devices on offer were the Apple iPad 2 (16GB 3G + Wi-Fi), BlackBerry Curve 8520, HTC Sensation, HTC Wildfire S, and the 7-inch HTC Flyer tablet PC.

The offer was then extended to include private bank customers, and on 6 December 2011 FNB announced that it had added Android devices from Samsung’s Galaxy range of tablets and smartphone to its promotions.

The below table shows the smartphone and tablet deals currently available to FNB clients.

It’s still unclear what form FNB’s iPhone 4S offer will take, as Apple distributes the device through operators such as Vodacom and MTN and not through a local distributor. Our source also didn’t want to disclose any further information, including pricing and launch dates.

However, considering that MTN and Vodacom stores are telling customers that they’ll only receive stock of the iPhone 4S in January 2012, it seems unlikely that FNB will offer it before then.

An FNB spokesperson told MyBroadband last week that they didn’t know whether they would be offering the iPhone 4S, and didn’t respond to further questions when we contacted them this week.

Update: FNB has provided the following statement: “FNB plans to make more announcements regarding discounted offers on tablets and smart phones in future, but will decline to identify these until we have completed negotiations.”
