Robots of CES 2012
No matter how impressive 80-inch LED televisions are, no matter how feature rich a new smartphone is, and no matter how this new tablet PC will change everything, people are only interested in one thing. Robots. With that in mind, we look at some of the robots found at CES 2012.
Modular Robotics Cublets
Modular Robotics, a new start-up based in Colorado, demoed their robot construction kit, made up of little Cublet robots. These little cubes each have their own function, black ones are the “sensors” for example, while colourful ones do the processing.
By attaching these cubes to each other, you can create robots that chase cats or walk along the edge of a table. The Cublets are meant for kids, but I know a few older techies who would take these for a spin.

Tosy SketRobo
The SketRobo by Vietnamese company Tosy is a simple device. Simply hand the robot a piece of paper and it will begin sketching elaborate images. Currently it can only sketch pre-programmed images, but the creators want to equip the bot with a facial recognition system and motion sensors so that it can draw portraits of people, nifty.

Pleo Robot Dinosaur
The only thing cooler than a robot, is a robot dinosaur. Pleo have created such a device, whose personality can vary depending on how you configure the contraption. With voice recognition and a range of plastic “food” toys, the robot dinosaur can be yours for $469.

Tosy mRobo
Another offering from Tosy, however this one was important enough to wheel out Justin Bieber for promotional purposes. This small robot has a speaker in its belly, and folds out into a humanoid shape that can start dancing when you play music; neat.
It can also fold up and function as a normal portable speaker when you don’t feel like impressing your friends with a robot dancing to the sounds of Justin Bieber’s “Baby”.
