LG smartphone plans for SA
There hasn’t been much news from LG on the mobile front in South Africa of late, but responses to questions posed to technical manager for mobile communications at LG SA, Kenneth Hales, indicated that the silence is not from lack of activity.
“We are currently in the process of finalising our product roadmap in terms of which handsets we will bring to the South African market this year,” Hales said, adding that they do plan to expand their range of smartphone handsets for 2012.
LG not only builds Android devices, but Windows Phone 7 smartphones and feature phones as well. It is only natural to wonder which of these types of devices they will focus on going forward.
“Although we offer feature phones our focus for South Africa is on providing high-end mobile devices,” Hales said. “With Android being the fastest growing operating system world-wide, we are firmly committed to the Android platform and we are developing user interfaces and various applications for this operating system.”
Asked what else to expect from LG mobile in South Africa for 2012, Hales said that they will “continue to provide South Africans with innovative, high-quality mobile devices that will suit every individual’s needs.”
Hales said that LG is keeping up with developments in the mobile space and is a leader in developing devices that are “world firsts.” He went on to specifically mention the Optimus 3D, a device that boasted a 3D camera and glasses-free 3D display, which Hales said was the first 3D phone to be released in the world.
