South African retailers are running specials on a range of technologies, including televisions, gaming consoles and cellphones.

Game and BT Games feature in this week’s roundup, with the deals below standing out due to their low prices relative to other retailers.

Telefunken 55-inch Full HD (Game)

Game is running a special on the Telefunken 55-inch Full HD LCD TV this week, pricing it at R7,999.

55-inch televisions broke the R10,000 barrier a few weeks ago. Since then 55-inch models made by various manufacturers have been on special from a range of local retailers, and feature prominently in previous roundups.

The Telefunken on special this week boasts 2 HDMI inputs, a USB 2.0 port for media, and a maximum brightness rating of 500 CD/M.

BlackBerry Curve 9300 (Game)

Game is also running a special on the BlackBerry Curve 9300 3G, selling it for R1,999.

In addition to the standard BlackBerry features such as BBM that are found on every BlackBerry device, the Curve 9300 offers users 3G connectivity. Previously only the BlackBerry 8520 model was available locally for below R2,000, and only with 2G connectivity.

The deal undercuts rival retailers such as Makro, who have the device on special for R2,599. It also includes a R70 Cell C or Vodacom airtime voucher to be activated in store.

Sony PlayStation 2 (Game)

Last of the Game specials this week is the Sony PlayStation 2 console, available for R949.99.

While the PlayStation 2 console may have been out for over 12 years now, it still offers a good experience for gamers who aren’t prepared to shell out nearly three times the price for a current generation console such as the Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3.

The package comes with the console, a single controller and all the cables you need to get started. The bundle does not include any games.

Sony PSP Street E1000 (BT Games)

BT Games have a wide range of consoles on special in April, including the Sony PSP Street E1000 for R999.95.

This is R200 cheaper than most other retailers, such as Game who lists the device on special for R1,199, but doesn’t include the bundled game available with other specials.

Despite this it still offers good value for money, with PSP games starting at around R120 each from various retailers.

The PSP Street, like the PlayStation 2 above, offers a good deal to the budget conscious who are not willing to spend three times the amount for the latest generation console.

BT Games Sony PSP Street E1000 special

Xbox 360 250GB console bundle (BT Games)

Another standout deal from BT Games this April is the Xbox 360 250GB console bundle for R2,899.95.

The bundle includes one controller, as well as the critically acclaimed Mass Effect 3 game – check out MyGaming’s slightly different take on reviewing Mass Effect 3.

A three month Xbox Live subscription is also included, along with download tokens for Fable 3, Gears of War 2 and Halo Reach.
