Mobile head honchos reveal which smartphones they use

The CEOs of mobile operators are in the privileged position to be able to get their hands on any mobile phone they want, and their smartphone choices are therefore a good indication of which mobile devices are the best on the market.

MyBroadband BusinessTech asked the mobile bigwigs which phones they are currently using, and unsurprisingly Samsung’s Android devices and Apple’s iPhone reigns supreme.

8ta head Amith Maharaj is currently using a Samsung Galaxy Nexus with Ice Cream Sandwich and an iPhone 4S. Maharaj previously used a Blackberry Curve 9360 as a primary device, but has ditched BlackBerry for Android and Apple.

Vodacom CEO Pieter Uys is currently using a Samsung Galaxy Note. Pieter is another cellular executive which migrated from BlackBerry to Android.

Vodacom CTO Andries Delport and Vodacom COO Sipho Maseko are flying the flag for South Africa’s most popular smartphone platform. Maseka is using a BlackBerry Bold 9900 while Delport is switching between his BlackBerry and Android smartphones.

MTN South Africa CEO Karel Pienaar’s love for Apple’s products is no secret, and he is currently using the iPhone 4s and an iPad 3.

Kanagaratnam Lambotharan, Chief Technology Officer at MTN SA, also uses an Apple iPhone 4 and an iPad, giving the MTN SA executive offices a distinct Apple fanboy flavour.

Cell C CEO Alan Knott-Craig is also an iPhone user, which means that three of the four top dogs in the SA mobile arena carry the popular Apple smartphone.
