Cheapest 4K big-screen TVs in South Africa — including several options under R10,000

Higher-resolution TVs have increased in popularity in South Africa, and, as a result, the prices of 4K TVs have fallen considerably, including for models 65 inches and larger.

When LG launched its first 4K TV in 2012, it had an 84-inch panel and cost $20,000 (R164,230). However, South Africans can now grab a big-screen 4K TV from a well-known brand for as little as R8,999.

Big-screen TVs provide an immersive viewing experience when watching 4K content, which has become more accessible in South Africa.

Streaming services like Netflix, Disney+, Amazon Prime Video, and Apple TV+ offer the resolution for some of their content, depending on your subscription tier.

MyBroadband searched for the cheapest 65-inch and larger TVs from prominent brands available in South Africa.

Coincidentally, all the options we found are also 4K TVs, which feature a 3,840×2,160-pixel resolution — around four times the amount of pixels used to produce a Full HD picture.

They are also all LED TVs, which offer improved viewing experiences over fluorescent-lit liquid crystal displays.

South Africans can grab a 65-inch 4K TV from a well-known brand such as Skyworth or Toshiba for as little as R8,999.

Three other 65-inch TVs are available for R9,999, including a Hisense UHD Smart TV (model: C645) from Game and a C645-model TCL QLED Smart TV from Takealot.

One QLED 4K TV is available for under R10,000 — the Skyworth 65-inch QLED UHD Smart TV (model: SUE9500) from Takealot for R9,999.

However, there are several larger options available for between R9,999 and R12,999.

Two 75-inch TVs made the list — one from Skyworth and the other from Toshiba.

South Africans can grab the C350MN-model Toshiba 75-inch 4K LED smart TV for R11,899 from Takealot, while the Skyworth 75-inch UHD Smart TV is priced at R12,999 at Bash.

While slightly smaller, opting for a 70-inch TV can save you some money if the 75-inch options are out of your budget.

Takealot sells the SUE9350F-model Skyworth for R9,999, and South Africans can grab the 70A6K-model Hisense 70-inch UHD Smart TV for R10,999 from Game.

The largest TVs listed are five 85-inch models — one each from Hisense, Toshiba and TCL, and two from Samsung.

These come with a significant step up in price, with the cheapest option being the Hisesnse for R22,999 from Takealot.

There are five 85-inch TV options listed for between R22,999 and R26,999.
