TCL bringing 115-inch monster X955 Max QD-Mini LED TV to South Africa

TCL is bringing the world’s largest QD-Mini LED TV to South Africa — the 115-inch X955 Max.
The company unveiled the TV at an EMEA launch event in Istanbul, where it also showed off several of its new TVs and appliances.
The X955 Max was the headline product at this launch event, with TCL highlighting the fact that it is the first QD-Mini LED TV in the world to feature over 20,000 local dimming zones.
“With more local dimming zones, the QD-Mini LED TV will deliver more details, higher brightness, and improved colour quality,” said TCL Training Manager for the MEA region Ahmad Abdul Khair Yusuf.
Features
This TV’s massive size is its clear differentiator, as most other brands’ largest TVs in South Africa are either 98-inch or 100-inch models.
TCL has paired this size with its high-end QD-Mini LED viewing technology, which ensures viewers get higher peak brightness — up to an impressive 5,000 nits — a contrast ratio of 50 million to 1, and a longer lifespan.
Quantum Dot Pro technology supplements the X955 Max’s QD-Mini LED technology, which TCL explained uses a “quaternary quantum crystal material” to deliver effective light emission for up to 100,000 hours.
This technology also offers a 98% DCI-P3 colour gamut and supports over a billion colours.
Rounding out the X955’s core visual technologies is 144Hz VRR, which provides smoother visuals when watching movies. This refresh rate, combined with AMD FreeSync Premium Pro, will also appeal to console gamers.
AI-powered excellence
TCL has installed an AiPQ Pro processor into its X955 Max TV to power all of the above display technologies and its Google TV operating system.
This processor also boasts various AI capabilities the company said improves the viewing experience, including:
- AI-Contrast — Perceives the brightness information of each image and adjusts the picture’s contrasts accordingly.
- AI-Color — Identifies the colour characteristics of a picture and dynamically calibrates colours and skin tones to be more realistic.
- AI-Clarity — Performs pixel-level optimisation on flawed images on a frame by frame basis.
- AI-HDR — Supports almost all HDR formats and upscales SDR content to HDR.
- AI-Motion — Identifies image blur and calculates motion by frame number to intelligently restore fast movements.
- AI-Scene — Performs scene analysis and algorithm tuning of image content to achieve superior optimisation.
Rounding out the impressive features of the TCL X955 is its ONKYO 6.2.2 Hi-Fi system, which comprises 12 speakers and 240W of total super peak power.
“Our objective is to cater to the evolving needs of our consumers by delivering the latest cutting-edge technology and providing a premium and exceptional entertainment experience in the Middle East and Africa markets,” said TCL Middle East General Manager Sunny Yang.
