Coolest tech at IFA Berlin 2024
Large and small tech companies from around the world are showcasing some of their latest innovations and products at the Internationale Funkausstellung (IFA) conference in Berlin, and MyBroadband looked for the coolest gadgets on show.
IFA is Europe’s biggest consumer technology show. In 2024, it brought together more than 1,800 exhibitors and over 182,000 visitors from 139 nations.
This year’s conference marked the 100th anniversary of IFA Berlin. The first event, held in 1924, showcased products like detector devices and tube radio receivers.
It has since become one of the world’s leading consumer electronics and home appliance trade shows.
It has expanded significantly in the past decade, with the event adding 6,000 square metres of exhibition space in 2014.
Since then, it has added new product areas like “Fitness and Digital Health”, and it introduced “IFA Next” in 2017. IFA Next serves as an innovation hub for start-ups, research labs, and companies.
Large companies like Samsung, Honor, LG, and TCL use IFA to unveil their latest lineups of annually refreshed products and prototypes, such as TVs and home appliances.
While these big names bring a lot of excitement, the conference also hosts smaller exhibitors who can showcase their products to a large and diverse audience.
This enables them to promote their unique and innovative products and services to draw customers or additional funding from potential investors.
MyBroadband attended this year’s conference in early September and spotted a vast range of innovative and sometimes obscure products.
Five of the coolest tech gadgets we spotted at IFA Berlin 2024 are listed below.
Acer Nitro Blaze 7
Acer debuted its first handheld gaming PC, the Nitro Blaze 7, at IFA Berlin on Wednesday, 4 September 2024. It will compete with products like the Steam Deck and the ASUS ROG Ally.
Acer’s handheld boasts impressive specs, including an AMD Ryzen 7 8840HS processor, a 7-inch Full HD touch-enabled display, AMD FreeSync Premium technology, and a 144Hz refresh rate.
The company says the AMD processor features Ryzen AI, which optimises performance and responsiveness across a wide range of games and applications.
“It leverages AMD Radeon 780M graphics and Radeon Super Resolution in the panel for real-time graphical upscaling and lag-free experiences,” says Acer.
“This allows players to experience enhanced visuals and responsive controls while playing their favourite AAA titles.”
It offers a storage capacity of up to 2TB and packs 16GB of LPDDR5x RAM.
EcoFlow Power Hat
Backup power company EcoFlow has its unique Power Hat on display at IFA 2024. The hat is designed to provide renewable energy to charge devices like smartphones while outdoors.
“Perfect for solar charging during an outdoor activity while also providing sun protection,” says EcoFlow.
Small solar panels make up the hat’s circular rim, enabling it to capture solar energy with 360-degree coverage. With a 12W output, EcoFlow says the hat will fully charge most mobile phones in three to four hours.
With dual USB-A and USB-C ports, the hat can charge two devices simultaneously. Its IP65 waterproof and dustproof rating means wearers need not fret when wearing it in wet environments or light rain.
Honor Deepfake Detector
Honor unveiled its AI Deepfake Detection technology aimed at circumventing the risks of fraud presented by AI-generated deepfake videos and images.
“AI Deepfake Detection examines frame-by-frame information such as eye contact, lighting, image clarity, and video playback to identify flaws that are imperceptible to the human eyes,” says Honor.
It added that the technology has been trained using a large dataset of videos and images related to online scams, and it can perform identification, screening, and comparison within three seconds.
“If synthetic or altered content is detected by the feature, a risk warning is immediately issued to the user, deterring them from continued engagement with the potential scammers for their safety,” says Honor.
The new AI feature will be released with a later version of MagicOS, and Honor CEO George Zhao said it will be available on the Honor Magic7.
Satechi “Find My” Passport Holder
Satechi, an electronics accessories producer specialising in Apple and PC, showcased a product that could help many travellers reduce their paranoia regarding losing their passports.
Its Vegan-Leather Passport Cover features support for Apple’s “Find My” service, which allows users to track the location of their passports in real time.
“Quickly and easily locate your passport cover with Find My technology, ensuring your important documents are always within reach,” says Satechi.
The passport holder also features a four-card holder, Bluetooth 5.2, wireless charging capabilities, and radio frequency identification (RFID) protection.
Yarbo Core Autonomous Yard Care Robot
Gone are the days of spending hours in the sun mowing the lawn or, in some countries, in the cold, clearing snow from driveways and pathways.
Yarbo’s Core Yard Care Robot automates these tasks. Using dual antennas for precise navigation, radar, and an array of cameras, the robot can navigate its way around your garden.
Customers can buy various attachments, including lawnmowers, snowblowers, and blowers. It offers a feature that could prove helpful in South Africa: Patrol Mode.
“Enhance your yard’s security 24/7 by identifying intruders, sending immediate alerts, and offering access to a live feed for real-time monitoring,” says Yarbo.
It also features a virtual reality (VR) mode, which Yarbo says will let users immerse themselves in a VR experience that allows them to explore every inch of their garden without having to leave their couch.
