AI smart glasses with an invisible display
With AI an essential tool in many people’s lives, tech companies are finding ways to make accessing personal assistants as seamless as possible, like Halliday’s smart glasses equipped with an invisible display.
Dubbed the world’s first proactive AI glasses, Halliday unveiled its take on a smartphone replacement at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas on Sunday.
The tech startup points out that smartphone users check their devices up to 200 times a day, which equates to roughly 40 meters of hand movement.
Halliday aims to make this process more convenient by presenting its users with all the key information they would typically rely on their device for on an invisible screen built into the glasses — particularly in busy and private situations.
The “invisible display” uses what the company claims is the world’s smallest optical module with no light leakage or rainbow patterns. It also allows users to insert prescription lenses from any optical store.
Users can control the screen with a ring instead of using gestures or touching the glasses, allowing them to interact with the built-in AI assistant.
When activated, the assistant starts analysing the user’s environment and can answer questions, take meeting notes, and translate speech.
The screen can also display notes when presenting and help users navigate without constantly looking down at their smartphones.
It has a battery life of up to 12 hours of active use and 100 hours of standby time.
Comfort and style are also design elements that Halliday has taken into consideration when designing their smart glasses.
“AI glasses shouldn’t make you look like a weirdo or frustrate you with annoying display issues,” the creators highlight on their website, possibly taking aim at some of the smart glasses models released as of late, like Meta Platform’s Orion.
“In this stage of development, we focus on creating glasses that are not only functional but also deliver an exceptional wearing experience.”
The company has drawn inspiration from retro-revival concepts by combining minimalist styles, Boston frames, and vibrant colours.
It also said that the frames’ ergonomic design was key, from the adjustable nose pads to the angle and length of the temples.
