South Africa’s favourite TV brand

Samsung is South Africa’s favourite brand for TVs and large appliances, while EcoFlow and Duracell dominate the portable power station and battery market.

In South Africa, the preferences of early adopters and IT professionals play a significant role in shaping the tech landscape, and a recent Analytico survey has shed light on the most popular brands among this influential group.

With over 2,500 responses from professionals in the information technology sector across the country, the survey provides valuable insights into consumer behaviour regarding televisions, large appliances, portable power stations, and batteries.

Samsung has emerged as the clear leader in both TVs and large appliances, with 52% of respondents selecting the brand for their television and 33% choosing it for home appliances.

This demonstrates Samsung’s strong presence in the South African market, where its reputation for innovation and quality resonates with tech-savvy users. LG, another South Korean giant, came in second for TVs, securing 17% of the vote.

However, in the category of large appliances, LG was surpassed by Bosch and Defy, which have built strong brand loyalty among consumers for their reliable and durable products.

When it comes to portable power stations, EcoFlow stands out as the top choice, with 34% of IT professionals and executives naming it their preferred brand.

This reflects the growing demand for portable energy solutions in an increasingly mobile and off-grid world.

Gizzu took second place with 18% of the vote, highlighting a competitive market for portable power stations.

Batteries, a staple in everyday tech use, saw Duracell come out on top, narrowly leading with a majority of votes.

However, Energizer wasn’t far behind, securing 35% of the vote, proving that competition remains fierce in this category.

This survey offers a clear snapshot of the brands trusted by South Africa’s tech community and highlights their preferences in key product categories.

TV

Samsung is the undisputed leader in the TV market in South Africa, securing over half of the votes.

LG and Hisense follow closely behind, with 17% and 14% of the vote, making them highly popular choices as well.

Large Appliances

Samsung also leads the large appliance market, including dishwashers and fridges, with nearly a third of the market selecting it as their preferred brand.

Bosch, Defy, and LG each received over 10% of the vote, solidifying their strong presence in this category.

Portable Power

While load-shedding has subsided in South Africa, backup power is still considered an essential item by many households.

A portable power station offers a convenient alternative to traditional generators or full-house inverter systems.

These compact battery packs come in various sizes and typically include an integrated inverter, allowing them to power many household devices during power outages.

EcoFlow is the most preferred brand in South Africa, followed by Gizzu, Romoss, and Magneto, all of which secured over 10% of the vote, reflecting their growing popularity in the portable power station market.

Batteries

Small batteries continue to power thousands of devices every day.

Although many newer products are shifting to lithium cells, older devices still rely on traditional Alkaline or Zinc batteries.

In South Africa, Duracell is the most popular battery brand, followed closely by Energizer.

Eveready trails behind, likely due to its focus on older Zinc cells, while the more popular brands have embraced Alkaline alternatives.
