Samsung Galaxy Note 2 confirmed for SA
8ta, MTN, and Virgin Mobile have all told MyBroadband that they will be offering the Samsung Galaxy Note 2.
Confirmation from the spokespeople of the operators comes after the Korean electronics giant announced the latest iteration of their phone/tablet hybrid at IFA Berlin yesterday (29 August 2012).
According to Samsung’s announcement, the device will feature a 5.5-inch 720p (720×1280) display, 1.6GHz quad-core processor, and Android 4.1.
MTN said that they have ranged the device and will provide full pricing details closer to the time of launch. Virgin Mobile and 8ta also said that they plan to offer the device.
8ta’s senior managing executive, Amith Maharaj, didn’t want to wager a guess as to the pricing of the device, saying that final pricing has not been made available.
However, Virgin said that that although not confirmed, it should be around the same price as the original Note.
A Cell C spokesperson said that they will look to list the Galaxy Note 2 once it becomes available to the SA market. “We are awaiting information on the timing and pricing of this device,” Cell C said.

Expected launch date
Asked about when they expect the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 to launch in SA, MTN said they’re looking at Q4, but added that concrete dates will be confirmed soon.
Virgin Mobile said that they are hoping for late October, while 8ta is aiming to launch during September. These are just expected dates, however, and not yet confirmed.
Vodacom was asked about their plans for the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 but did not respond by the time of publication.
