Sony Xperia Tablet Z: SA price, launch window
The LTE-enabled model of the semi-rugged Sony Xperia Tablet Z is set to make its way to South Africa during the course of July 2013 through South Africa’s mobile operators.
This is according to Andrew Fraser, head of marketing for Sony Mobile SA.
Fraser said that they don’t have a firm retail price for the tablet PC planned, but they do expect the tablet PC to be available for under R10,000.
He explained that since the device will be brought in by the mobile network operators, they will set the price. The poor Rand may also impact on pricing, Fraser added.
Vodacom previously told MyBroadband that it plans to sell the device, while Cell C and Telkom Mobile said that they were considering “ranging” the device, but could only confirm their plans once they had completed testing of the device on their networks.
Sony first unveiled its Xperia Tablet Z at CES in Las Vegas during January, and announced at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona a month later that it would launch the tablet PC during Q2 2013.
The device will launch with Android 4.1, Sony said, but committed to offering an upgrade to Android 4.2 “for the latest Android user experience”.
