Xbox One price cut for South Africa

The recommended retail price of the 500GB Xbox One will receive an R800 price cut, distributor Prima Interactive has announced.

From 23 July, the 500GB version of the console will be available for R5,499 at BT Games, CNA, Dion Wired, Game, Toys R Us, Takealot.com, Musica, Games4u, and Animeworx.

Prima said the Xbox One is set to become backwards compatible with Xbox 360 games in the near future, with Microsoft currently beta testing the feature.

Xbox 360 backwards compatibility is set to launch on the Xbox One between 23 September and 21 December 2015.

Prima also highlighted a number of upcoming releases for the Xbox One, which it said makes the console an attractive buy:

  • Rare Replay, featuring 30 of Rare’s greatest games for R399 (4 August)
  • Gears of War ultimate edition, featuring access to the Gears of War Beta (25 August)
  • Forza 6 (15 September)
  • Halo 5 Guardians (27 October)
  • Rise of the Tomb Raider (10 November)
