StarCraft 2 South African Launch
Video game retailers around the country stayed open until inhuman hours of the morning to provide avid gamers with their copies of the sequel to Blizzard’s highly acclaimed and ever-popular StarCraft.
Fans have been waiting 3 years for the game’s release since its official announcement.
For those who aren’t up-to-date on the history, the original StarCraft was launched in 1998 and was quickly followed up with the Brood War expansion set later that year.
StarCraft 2 was unveiled almost 10 years later on 18 May 2007 in Seoul, South Korea.
Despite the ridiculousness of the hour there was a buzz among the 70-odd gamers assembled outside BT Games Centurion as they waited for the store to open its doors.
The store started taking payments for the game from 22h00 last night and allowed customers in five at a time after the zero hour.
By 01h00 it was all over for the employees of the store, but the night had likely only just begun for the excited new owners.
