Night Dive Studios is working on a remake of the original System Shock video game, and is in discussions about a new game for the series – System Shock 3.
Fast Company reported that Night Dive is working with the original concept artist to reimagine his designs from the early 1990s.
The task is more than just a technical challenge of getting old code to run on new computers.
Finding out who owns the rights to a game or franchise after its original developer goes belly-up, and then making a deal to acquire the licence, is difficult.
System Shock is one such franchise Night Dive has acquired, and so far it has published cult cyberpunk classic System Shock 2, and an enhanced edition of the original System Shock.
Night Dive said it would need a bigger publisher to take on the remake and sequel, though.
