PlayStation 4 gets PS2 emulation

Sony has launched PS2 emulation for the PlayStation 4, with a crop of old Star Wars games released as a bundle on the console, Digital Foundry reported.

The titles included in the bundle are Super Star Wars, Star Wars: Jedi Starfighter, Star Wars: Racer Revenge, and Star Wars: Bounty Hunter.

There is no confirmation from Sony yet, but Digital Foundry said all evidence points towards emulation rather than remasters of these old Star Wars games.

Digital Foundry found the following:

  1. A system prompt appears telling you the old select and start buttons are mapped to the left and right sides of the DualShock 4’s trackpad. Third-party game developers cannot access the system OS in this manner.
  2. The PlayStation 4 emulates PS2 memory cards.
  3. The PlayStation 2 logo appears when you boot each title.
  4. All in-game button prompts relate to the PS2’s controller.
