It’s that time of year again – time to rAge! The event has become a landmark on the South African gaming landscape. The latest and greatest gaming and culture product will be on display, all against a backdrop of 2 080 LAN gamers doing their thing for the duration. Any gamer who can’t make it will probably just sit in the corner, rocking back and forth, struggling to contain their mewlings.
In case you don’t know, the expo will be taking place this weekend, from 1 October to 3 OCtober. So far we’ve learnt which cool unreleased titles will be on display and playable by the visiting public, and apparently a group of die-hards will be trying to break a record for the longest non-stop LAN.
Of course, there is plenty more to keep visitors entertained.
World class gamers
Over at the Corex/MSI stand will be two of the world’s best Quake players, Sebastian Siira and Pierre-Emeric ‘link1n’ Portier, along with world famous CoD player, Conney Sjöberg. The Corex/MSI team will also be showing of some snazzy 3D gaming machines, and the Challenger Gaming keyboard from Thermaltake.
EA Games MMA exhibition
Supporting their EA Sports MMA game marketing push, EA is going to be putting on some exhibition matches. That’s IRL exhibition matches. The XFC Mixed Martial Arts exhibition fights will be taking place inside a full sized 9m X 9m cage. Matches are scheduled for 2 October from 11am – 12pm, and 3pm – 4pm. On 3 October scheduled fight time is 12pm – 1pm.
Vuzu Babes Game-off
If the cage fighting got you in the mood for a showdown, the you better not miss the action over at The Verge exhibition stand. Vuzu babes Pippa Tshabalala and Lalla Hirayama will be going head to head, wrestling WWE style on 2 October from 2pm – 3pm.
Game State and Zoopy FHM models and celebrities
The Game State and Zoopy chaps have organised various local celebrities to attend the expo. Gamers can meet DJ Euphonik from 5FM on 1 October at 12pm; Nicole Ball from 5FM on 2 October from 11:30am; and local Actress Rikki Brest on 3 October at 10am.
Hot FHM models will also be challenging rAgers to a game-off throughout the event. If you are extra lucky, you may even be able to catch a glimpse of MyGaming contributor Grant Hinds.
Call of Duty LAN Championship
The Call of Duty LAN Championship finale, as presented by Gaming Inc., will be held during the NAG LAN. This competition is set to run over the entire weekend.
Frontosa / Asus / MSI overclocking record attempt
Frontosa in association with Asus and MSI will be conducting over-clocking experiments (with Liquid Nitrogen temperature control) in an attempt to set some new SA records.
Eyefinity 6 demonstration
A six-monitor set up of the using AMD Eyefinity 6 technology on Samsung SyncMaster MD230 monitors will be on display. This provides six 2560×1600 screens for a total of 12 times the resolution of HD video, all running off a single Radeon 5870 6 edition graphics card.
Xbox 360 – new consoles, Kinect and LIVE
Microsoft SA will have the snazzy new Xbox 360 models on display, along with the Kinect. Details on the Xbox LIVE service which is to launched in SA during November will also be shared.
PlayStation 3 Move
Sony’s PlayStation Move motion capture device will be on display.
Magic: The Gathering Workshop
Visitors interested in some traditional gaming action can stop by the Magic: The Gathering workshop presented by Blowfish Entertainment. The workshop will be running for the duration of the event.
