Trading and player-vs-player battles in Pokémon are on the way, Niantic CEO John Hanke told Vice.
One of the two features would already have been available if their servers were more stable, he said.
Niantic is also working on a gym battle system that will supplement the “rudimentary” version currently in Pokémon Go.
Hanke said the current priority is to include mechanics that reward cooperative gameplay and introduce “experiences” that offer more depth when capturing Pokémon.
New features will be launched in an abridged form soon, he said.
Hanke added that holding events on a global scale would be the best demonstration of Niantic’s vision of playing games together.
