The Xbox One X will sell for R7,499 when it launches in South Africa.
The console boasts improved performance over its predecessor and will play games in native 4K resolution. Current Xbox One games will also run and look better on the console.
Console games can be expensive when compared to PC titles, however, and many gamers may be torn between forking out for an Xbox One X or building a gaming PC to save money in the long run.
The Xbox One X boasts 6TFLOPS of peak compute performance, leveraging AMD’s CPU and GPU architecture to deliver high-end gaming performance at a relatively cheap price.
For a PC to deliver similar results, a powerful GPU is needed in combination with a decent processor and sufficient RAM.

Performance
According to Microsoft, the Xbox One X boasts 6 TFLOPS of peak compute performance thanks to its AMD GPU.
The closest PC component to this level of performance, which was also in-budget, was the AMD Radeon RX 580 – at 6.18 TFLOPS.
We opted for the 4GB version, as it is considerably cheaper than the 8GB card.
The Pentium G4560 is an affordable CPU which boasts a surprising amount of power, able to handle most modern games with the help of a good graphics card.
While the PC is not a 4K gaming machine, it offers great performance at 1080p and will handle certain titles at 1440p.
It is important to note that while the Xbox One X and PC are similarly priced, the Xbox One X requires a monthly subscription for online multiplayer gaming and console games are generally more expensive than PC games.
The Xbox One X includes a controller, however, while the PC will require a keyboard and mouse.
While you won’t be able to buy a 4K gaming machine for the price of an Xbox One X, PC gamers have the option to upgrade their graphics card to obtain higher resolutions for gaming.
If it’s 4K HDR gaming for under R8,000 you’re after, then an Xbox One X is a decent choice.
