AMD unveils Radeon RX 5700 graphics cards to take on Nvidia

AMD has unveiled new graphics cards based on its 7nm process technology.

The new cards, which use the company’s RDNA architecture, are detailed below:

  • Radeon RX 5700 XT 50th Anniversary Edition – $499
  • Radeon RX 5700 XT – $449
  • Radeon RX 5700 – $379

The cards will be available from 7 July, but AMD noted that the anniversary edition will be available in limited quantities.

Nvidia comparison

AMD said the new cards will take on Nvidia’s GeForce RTX GPUs, specifically:

  • The Radeon RX 5700 XT will take on the GeForce RTX 2070.
  • The Radeon RX 5700 will compete against the GeForce RTX 2060.

At a press conference detailing the new cards, AMD showed that the RX 5700 XT outperformed the GeForce RTX 2070 by 20fps in 1440p gaming.

The company added that the cards’ RDNA technology allows for DisplayPort 1.4 with Display Stream Compression (DSC). This delivers up to 8K HDR at 60Hz or 4K HDR at 144Hz.
