The top 10 video games of 2019

2019 has seen many successful game launches across various consoles and platforms.

These range from sports games to open-world RPGs, and comprise brand-new IPs as well as new iterations from popular franchises.

2020 is expected to be the year that both Sony and Microsoft launch their next-generation PlayStation and Xbox consoles respectively – meaning that it is likely to be a year full of impressive games with improved graphics and features.

These are the top 10 video games of 2019 according to Metacritic.

Tetris Effect is named after the real phenomenon where players are so engrossed in Tetris that the blocks linger in their mind, vision, and dreams.

9. Monster Hunter: World – Iceborne

Monster Hunter: World – Iceborne is a huge expansion for the popular Monster Hunter World. According to Metacritic, the expansion rivals the original in terms of the volume of gameplay.

Iceborne transports hunters into an icy region that that includes new monsters and a higher difficulty option while expanding upon the gameplay features that made the original game so popular.

8. Disco Elysium

Disco Elysium is an open-world RPG where the player is a detective with an entire city to interrogate and investigate.

Users can choose to be a good cop and solve cases, but can also do bad things such as take bribes – ensuring that the player has the agency to truly define their character.

Join the battle between humans and the machines that have taken over Earth.

The human resistance sends a force of android soldiers, including you, to take on the invaders.

Play as Sekiro or ‘the one-armed wolf’ as you avenge your Lord, who was kidnapped by a samurai clan.

The critically-acclaimed open-world Western made its way to PC in 2019.

Red Dead Redemption 2 takes place in 1899 America and sees Arthur Morgan and the Van der Linde attempt to evade federal agents and bounty hunters while simultaneously dealing with internal divisions.

2. Resident Evil 2

Resident Evil 2 brings back the various gameplay elements that made the original series such a hit.

Join new character, police officer Leon Kennedy, as well as college student Claire Redfield in a fight against a zombie infestation.

Divinity: Original Sin II is set a thousand years after the original game, and expands upon the gameplay of the previous title.
